A consensus has formed that Resident Evil is in one of the best states it's ever been in. The survival horror franchise has been thriving ever since the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This is due to both Capcom's renewed efforts in polishing the games and making full use of its RE Engine, as well emphasizing the series’ horror roots over action in most cases. Even then, there is still acknowledgement of Resident Evil’s B-movie influences and arcade-style extras, fleshing out every major title into great packages that keep fans coming back for more.
The streak kept going with Resident Evil's most recent title, Resident Evil Village. As Village is the eighth mainline title in the series, it continues the story of Ethan Winters, a nondescript family man who must contend with some of the strangest horrors the Resident Evil universe has seen. While the game's quality in relation to the other all-time classic RE games is up for debate, it proved to be another successful effort and has sold over six million copies.
