At launch ResidentEvil 4 acted as an important step away from the franchise's original fixed-camera perspective and focus on survival over combat. The game put protagonist Leon S. Kennedy at the center of the action, with an over-the-shoulder camera perspective allowing gamers to eliminate their undead foes. While older entries forced players to scrounge desperately for supplies, Resident Evil 4's iconic merchant made ammunition and weaponry more prevalent. Recent Resident Evil remakes have taken inspiration from this more action-focused gameplay, and rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake suggest that the fourth installment will soon receive a similar makeover.

After eight years of work, the Resident Evil 4 HD Project has finally been released by creators Cris Morales and Albert Marin.
