Indie games platform Itch.io has reportedly been taken down by pop culture brand Funko.
That's according to the company's official Twitter account, which claims that the toy firm has used an AI-powered brand protection software called Brand Shield. This in term, Itch.io alleges, has resulted in its domain being disabled on the back of "some bogus phishing report" that the service sent to its domain registrar.
"For transparency, we *did* take the disputed page down as soon as we got the notice because it's not worth fighting stuff like that," Itch.io continued.
"Regardless, our registrar's automated system likely kicked to disable the domain since no one read our confirmation of removal."
At the time of writing. Itch.io is still down, but in another post Itch.io has said that if the block goes on for over eight hours, it will be deploying a new domain.
"We're probably going to wait this one out," the company said. We considered putting up a new domain but there are implications with third party services that make it not a trivial swap."
