According to the comments in the thread, PotatoCase even attempted to stop the Chelonians from jumping by reloading the save multiple times. In their words, “they suddenly gain the power of Chelonia and jump” when kneecapped to stop it. The NPCs in Red Dead Redemption 2 have always been known for some particularly strange behavior, but at least in this case, it seems completely in line with the characters themselves.
