Record 33.7m concurrent players log onto Steam
pcgamesinsider.bizSteam has hit a new record for concurrent players.
That's according to data SteamDB, which points to Valve's platform attracting a record 33,675,229 simultaneous users on January 7th. The official Steam data portal shows that this was actually 33,654,586.
This comes just nine months after the previous record – 33,598,520 – was set in March 2023.
As for what has caused this spike, it's likely a combination of factors. Fresh titles like Counter-Strike 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 continue to see popularity, as do older games such as Dota 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
Steam also generally sees a spike in concurrent users around the Christmas holiday; people have time off and choose to play games during their break. At the start of the year, folks often have less in the way of disposable income after the festive season and choose to stay at home rather than going out.
