Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Lead Writer Confirms Rivet Is Lesbian

If you're a multiversal selfcest shipper, I'm sorry. Even if Ratchet and Rivet were into Loki-like self-loving, it isn't gonna happen. Rivet's lesbian. That comes straight from the mouth (or Twitter words) of lead writer Sam Maggs.

This news comes amidst an interview about Rivet's name where it was revealed she was almost called Ratchette among other things. However, Sam Maggs' credit was never given which is especially damning considering how hard she fought to make sure Rivet wasn't overly sexualised, even citing that the character once had larger breasts and makeup.

But Maggs fought in her corner, resulting in the Rivet we know and love today. And she went a step further in her tweets to confirm that Rivet is in fact a lesbian. Maybe we'll see this explored more in the sequel.

There's also a prominent fan theory that Rivet is trans. We haven't met many lombaxes in the series - there's Ratchet, the titular character, Angela, the villain turned hero in Going Commando, and Alister, the antagonist of A Crack in Time. From the few we've met, we know that female lombaxes don't have tails.

There's a lot of contention about whether Angela is even a lombax, with conflicting information coming from a radio transmission in A Crack in Time and the multiverse in Rift Apart. She probably is, though. And she doesn't have a tail. But Rivet does despite being a female lombax, leading many to believe that she transitioned.

Sam Maggs addressed this idea on Twitter yesterday: "I love this fan theory," Maggs wrote. "I can say that I didn't think of it when working on her initially (I'm cis and also stupid) but I am 10,000 percent in support
