Sony has released PlayStation 5 system update 24.06-10.01.00, targeting game performance and stability, and for once, having such minimal patch notes are more than fine with us!
The download weighs in at around 1.2GB, with the only patch note being:
This update, however, comes after a week of certain games experiencing graphics issues and full blown crashes, most significantly Final Fantasy 16 – Square Enix acknowledged the issues earlier this week.
Last week’s PS5 firmware update laid the foundations for a global rollout of a new customisable Welcome Hub, and direct party invite sharing with links. Additionally, the personalised 3D audio system that was in testing for the last few months with users has now gone live for all players.
However, console system updates also include a lot of behind the scenes changes that can affect game performance, providing system-level optimisations for specific games, new API hooks and more – they’re similar to installing driver updates on PC, or new versions of Windows. Sony never details the changes made to that level of granularity, but something clearly went awry with last week’s update, affecting a handful of games.
