PS5 Pro is beginning to appear in the wild, with some sections of media and even customers receiving their consoles. While the package has very few surprises about it, one amusing feature is in the top-right corner, as the device proudly declares itself “disc-free”. There’s a picture of a Blu-ray with a line through it just to hammer the point home.
Digital ratio increases again on PS5
Update: More pre-orders now live!
Obviously, you can attach an optional disc drive to the PS5 Pro, so physical remains a viable option – assuming you’re willing to pay a premium for it. Sony flogs Blu-ray attachments for about $80, and these fit both the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro. Of course, it’s an added expense if you still purchase physical media, and stock has been limited lately.
But it’s worth reiterating that boxed game sales have been on the slide for years now. In the UK, fewer than 25 per cent of games sales are purchased physically, and in the US that number sits around 22 per cent. So while it is a shame a premium product like the PS5 Pro lacks a disc drive, it’s somewhat easy to understand why Sony has made this decision.

When I got my Pro pre-order in, the disc drive was still in stock everywhere in Europe. Silly me was thinking: Nah, I don't need to order that right now.
Well, talk about a mistake. Every retailer here has told me the next drives will arrive some time in December at the earliest.
They should have kept going:
Disc free console
No MSG
Gluten free
All organic
More like disc-less
Rather than flaunting it, it is probably just to make people aware it doesnt have one. Not every consumer is a gaming nerd like most of us on this site
