Sony has revealed thePS Plus free games for October 2022, and while the selection of games is certainly fine, there is something clearly missing. The PS Plus free games for October 2022 include Hot Wheels Unleashed, Injustice 2, andSuperhot. There is a nice variety here, and many fans are likely to pick up one or two if they don't already have them. It's just an odd selection for October.
Halloween may just be one day in October, but for some, the entire month represents the «spooky season.» It's a time for pumpkins, generally creepy stuff, visits to Spirit Halloween, horror movies, and of course, horror games. Yet, for one reason or another, PS Plus has not really celebrated for the past two years, despite the flak it received last year and its competitors being rather consistent here.

Xbox Game Pass, for example, is adding three games in October 2022 all befitting the season, and that's with several games not out yet. Scorn, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and Signalis all approach horror in different ways, but all fit the season well. Meanwhile, the Epic Games Store's first two free games for October include Rising Hell andSlain: Back From Hell. Neither are really horror games, but the hell-focused, gothic approach here is one way to celebrate the season.
But if PS Plus was the only way to tell Halloween is celebrated in October, no one would clearly realize it. Not a single one of the games is remotely related to Halloween. What's worse is that Sony has always been inconsistent in the matter. The PS Plus free games for October 2020 did include Vampyr, which is a nice nod, but October 2021 basically teased fans with it.
