As many subscription services often see, there have been plenty of ups and downs for PS Plus this year. A lot of the free games earlier this year received a mixed or negative reception, with even PS Plus' 'Big March' pattern falling short of past years. At the same time, the launch of PS Plus Extra and Premium has been well-received by fans around the globe. With the continued support of PS Plus Extra and Premium, it's possible that it gives Game Pass a run for its money, even if Sony believes it'll take years.
The Essential tier, prior to just a couple of months ago, was the only tier. PS Plus free games have gone through periods of good games and bad games, with late 2020/early 2021 perhaps being the best the service has ever seen. 2022 has been mixed in comparison.
