On July 24, a tweet was shared by Sahil Karnany, a Bengaluru-based techie, where he posted a horrific picture of pizza maker Domino's kitchen where the pizza dough could be seen kept right under a mop. Karnany wrote, “This is how @dominos_india serves us fresh Pizza! Very disgusted”, tagging FSSAI, ministry of health and concerned ministers. The Twitter post has since gone viral and has drawn a lot of criticism for the popular pizza chain restaurant. Now, on August 14, the official Twitter handle of Domino's finally made a public statement regarding the issue.
Reacting to the viral post, Domino's India tweeted, “We adhere to stringent world-class protocols for ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. We have zero tolerance for violations of these operating standards. The incident brought to our notice will be thoroughly investigated and basis the findings appropriate measures will be rolled out. Rest assured we remain committed to doing everything necessary towards ensuring the safety and well-being of our customers”.
Alongside the post, Karnany also shared a video of the Bengaluru Domino's restaurant highlighting the unhygienic treatment of the pizza dough in the restaurant kitchen area. The original post has received 903 likes, 552 retweets and 238 comments at the time of writing this.
FSSAI official Twitter handle was among one of those who commented on the post. FSSAI wrote, “FSSAI has taken note of the incident. The response of the FBO has been sought and appropriate action shall be taken in the matter as per the regulatory provisions under FSS Act, 2006”.
Some recent commenters also pointed out that Domino's did not comment on the original post and took almost a month to respond to the issue. While
