In Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, you'll meet a young girl called Fariba who sells you hints and maps whenever you run into her across your adventure through Mount Qaf.
She'll also hum a tune now and then, which fans quickly realised was none other than the main theme music of the 2008 reboot.
This was first pointed out by Maximilian_13 on the series' dedicated subreddit, "I like all the easter eggs in this game, the one I love the most is Fariba humming... In the beginning, I was thinking, 'This is familiar... Where did I hear it before?' Then it hit me, she is humming the main theme music of PoP 2008."
In Prince of Persia (2008), the unnamed protagonist helps Princess Elika, a priest of Ormazd, to re-imprison Ahriman, an evil entity corrupting the land. Interestingly, The Lost Crown references him being imprisoned by the priests of Ormazd.
Another fan commented, "The parry sound is the same as 2008 PoP as well. When you jump on a wall, the sound of your hand touching the wall is the one from the Sands trilogy. The broken wood sound is the one from the Sands trilogy when you break the barrels."
Two years after the reboot, Ubisoft went back to the Sands of Time universe with a new entry, The Forgotten Sands, set in between the first and second games. It would be the last main Prince of Persia game for 14 years until The Lost Crown, which returns to the classic, 2D-style, but with a Metroidvania twist. These nods to the 2008 reboot may just be fun little easter eggs, but they could also point to it being in the same world.
However, when Ubisoft was asked in an interview with RockPaperShotgun if The Lost Crown had any connection to The Sands of Time, they said that it's "not a reboot", but in fact a "whole new chapter". Game director Mounir Radi even said that you could consider it a prequel. So, Sands of Time universe or 2008 reboot? Trying to bridge them all together into one cohesive story is hurting my head, so let's just stick with it being a fun nod, eh?
