The best ending is incredibly rare. There are something like 17,000 possible endings to in the wide variety of quests, dialogues, and epilogues that can play out in its final chapters. Some are good, some are bad, and some are neutral, but they all come with at least a little bit of sacrifice. Whether it's choosing one lover over the other or one side of the central conflict, players are always missing out on something; there's no way to see absolutely everything on a first playthrough.

A few endings, though, are even worse: they require players to commit to huge choices that change the entire game. It's only sensible — there's a good reason why, say, the Dark Urge endings are exclusive to Dark Urge playthroughs. This isn't always a bad thing, as the specificity of these rare endings makes them a better fit for the particular choices that trigger them. There's a highly rare ending that'll let players have their Illithid cake and eat it too, but this ending is only available when playing Gale as an Origin character. The first and second act of the game are centered on the Illithid tadpoles inside the main party's heads. They're supposed to turn them into Mind Flayers eventually, but for some reason, they don't. In Act Three, a larger conspiracy is revealed: the Netherbrain, a highly evolved Mind Flayer, intends to implant the entire population with parasites, turning them all into Mind Flayers made to do its bidding.
