Using ’s Quick Balls to catch Shiny Pokémon almost feels like cheating, considering the creatures’ rarity and their hard-to-obtain status. Quick Balls were introduced in Gen 4’s, in the Sinnoh region, and have been in the franchise ever since then. Its main effect is having an increased catch rate when used in the first turn of any encounter. While it used to be a 4x catch rate modifier during Gen 4, that has since changed.
Quick Balls currently have a 5x catch rate modifier, making it even more effective when used in the first turn. If a Quick Ball is used in any other turn, it has a regular 1x catch rate. Shiny Pokémon in , on the other hand, have a low spawn rate when compared to their normal-colored variants. While the majority of the Shiny hunting experience revolves around actually finding one, Quick Balls can be used as an exploit that swiftly eliminates the challenge and pleasure of the catch.

Because of its great catch rate, a Quick Ball can instantly end the thrill of catching a Shiny Pokémon after hunting it for hours. While the main difficulty in ’s Shiny hunting is about encountering the desired alternative form of a creature, quickly catching it makes the search seem somewhat meaningless. In this sense, it is similar to using a Master Ball in to capture a Legendary, for example. While it is very practical and straightforward, the feeling of a grand encounter deserving of exhausting turns is simply inexistent.
Despite the lack of a feeling of accomplishment when catching a Shiny Pokémon, players should always use Quick Balls to catch wild Shinies in. This is due to the fact that Shinies are extremely hard to find, and players should use the Poké Ball
