Some Pokémon fans believe that a new Eevee evolution could debut in the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, running off a recurring pattern with Eevee’s appearances in the Pokémon anime. Nintendo surprised fans by announcing the ninth generation of its long-running, monster-collecting franchise with last month’s Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer — which put the spotlight on the game’s new trio of starter Pokémon: the Fire-type reptile Fuecoco, the Grass-type kitten Sprigatito, and the Water-type duckling Quaxly. Plenty of brand-new breeds of Pokémon are expected to appear in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, along with familiar creatures from past installments.
One of the existing Pokémon that could return in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is Eevee, a cute fox-like Normal-type that made its debut in the original Pokémon Red and Blue before being used as the Rival NPC’s starter Pokémon in 1998’s Pokémon Yellow and having a cover role in 2018’s Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! for the Nintendo Switch. Like plenty of other Pokémon, Eevee can evolve into stronger forms, but with a special twist: instead of following a linear evolutionary path, Eevee can branch out into different elemental types after being exposed to special stones or fulfilling other conditions. The Eevee line started with the trio of Vaporeon (Water), Jolteon (Electric), and Flareon (Fire), but later Pokémon games would add Espeon (Psychic), Umbreon (Dark), Leafeon (Grass), Glaceon (Ice), and Sylveon (Fairy).
