The 2003 film tells the story of Johnny (played by Wiseau), a successful bank executive who lives in a town house in San Francisco with his fiancee Lisa. One day, Lisa sleeps with Johnny's best friend Mark, and nothing is the same again. At least, that is the tale in broad strokes. As many hardcore fans of The Room know, the film is jam packed full of oddities which — along with Wiseau's truly strange performance — include both characters and plot lines which both appear and disappear from the narrative seemingly at random.
The Room is truly something that has to be seen to be believed, and since its release in 2003 has been screened multiple times a year as a midnight movie. The Room has become particularly popular in the last few years, finding a whole new generation of fans online. The film's resurgence first began when James Franco released his film The Disaster Artist, which dramatized the making of the infamous movie. Since then, more and more fans have been returning to The Room, and in the age of social media, Wiseau himself has become very active online, creating himself an even larger following than he initially received from his movie.
