Pokémon Legends: Arceus has added a new twist to the combat system of the Pokémon series, in the form of the agile style and strong style moves that can be used in battle, which also bears a resemblance to the style used in the Bravely Default series. The gameplay system in the Bravely Default series can best be compared to the job-based entries in the Final Fantasy series. The player unlocks jobs throughout the game, which in turn, have unlockable abilities. The player can combine abilities in Bravely Default 2, in order to create unique class builds.
What makes the system distinct from the Final Fantasy games is the Brave and Default actions. During combat, each character has Brave Points, or BP, which determine how many actions they can take per turn, with the party usually starting with one BP for each member. If a character decides to take the Default action, then they will spend their turning defending, and will also gain a BP.

The Brave & Default system allows characters to bank up to four moves, by storing BP points over several turns. The character can then unleash four actions in a single round against the enemy, a particularly effective strategy in Bravely Default 2. A character can also choose to enter a BP deficit, by taking multiple actions in one turn without having any spare BP, but they will have to waste several turns afterward, as they regain their lost BP. This system is great for fighting mooks on the overworld, as the player can quickly unleash a load of attacks to wipe out the enemy in a single turn. The upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus seems to use a similar system to the one in the Bravely Default series.
