A 25-year-old ongoing mistake in the franchise is finally being corrected, all thanks to the upcoming release of a new game. The special Pokémon Presents event, held on Pokémon Day 2024, served as a stage for several announcements. Many of the live-service games in the series, such as,, and had news shared about incoming additions. On top of that, Nintendo also announced two new titles:, and a new game called .
So far, little is known about the two titles other than a few confirmed Pokémon for , but the new digital seems to finally be correcting a long mistake. As pointed out by the user TAHK0 on X, one of the issues in the series is that the Poké Ball featured on the back of Western cards is opening in an incorrect manner, as the centerpiece is attached to the gray part rather than to the red one.
The new card back designs for, however, fixes the problem that has been going on with since its release back in 1999, as the centerpiece is now attached to the red half of the Poké Ball.
The newer Japanese TCG physical card backs have already been updated to a model similar to that featured by TAHK0.
The redesign in the card backs, which fixes the long-lasting Poké Ball problem, is exclusive to. So far, Creatures – the company responsible for the physical – has not announced any changes to the physical version of cards. This means that cards obtained through boosters and other physical products will still likely feature the incorrect Poké Ball design – that is until the company decides to change it if it ever does.
The recently announced is a new mobile app being targeted for release at some point in 2024, for iOS and Android devices. The title will work as a card collecting game, featuring cards that already exist in the official, as well as exclusive pieces crafted especially for the app. Along with this, the battle feature is hinting at a big problem with , but that may not last.
