As the video game industry has grown so has the demand for gaming-related gifts, especially for live-service games that have become a hobby in and of themselves.has long sported an in-game store filled with additional items and goodies for enthusiasts to purchase but this new product makes the process much simpler and more accessible than ever before.
Per Niantic, has partnered with Walmart to introduce physical Gift Cards that can be purchased from Walmart retail locations around the United States, Walmart.com, and the Walmart app; The Gift Cards will be available as early as October 20. Those who purchase a Gift Card can load a certain amount of money on it that can be used to purchase items in the store. ll Walmart Supercenters will also gain access to more PokéStops and Gyms to provide the community with even more opportunities to catch their favorite pocket monster.
When it comes to the amount of money one can attach to a Gift card, there are four options available. $10 equates to 1,250 PokéCoins, $25 is 3,300 PokéCoins, $50 rewards 7,000 PokéCoins, and a whole $100 grants the redeemer a whopping 15,000 PokéCoins. Based on sheer numbers alone, it's clear that the best value for money is the $100 option but given how expensive that is for many people, one has to imagine that most fans would likely opt for the far more reasonable $25 option.
The option to purchase Gift Cards is undoubtedly a fun addition for those with friends and family who are deep into the mobile game. The real win for all players is undoubtedly the addition of more PokéStops and Gyms, especially for those users who live within proximity of a Walmart Supercenter. According to Niantic, 90 percent of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart so most Trainers should be able to spin quite a few more stops in the coming months.
