The Pokémon games have always featured plenty of NPCs, and Pokémon Black and White has a few that are more talkative than expected. Black and White may feature more NPCs that any previous Pokémon game in the form of large crowds that can be seen in the game's major cities. While they can be easily overlooked, there is a hidden secret in these crowds that not many have seen.
Pokémon Black and White is based on the United States, particularly New York City. In order to capture the feeling of such a big city, the major cities in the game have streets that are teeming with NPCs walking from place to place. In general, these characters have no interaction with the player aside from walking around them. While nowhere near as unlikable as Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee's Magikarp scammer, the player is unlikely to care about any of these silent walking NPCs. They might as well be the same as the lampposts and benches that line the streets.

Reddit user smalltown_dreamspeak made a discovery about these NPCs and posted it to the Pokémon subreddit. In Castelia City, they discovered that while most of the NPCs walking down the street indeed have no interest in speaking to the player, that was not the case for all of them. By staying in one area for long enough, they will eventually encounter NPCs who are willing to stop and talk to the player. While their lack of interesting things to say could be another missed character opportunity for Pokémon, the fact that some of these wandering NPCs will talk at all was a new discovery.
