Sony's recently-acquired studio Firesprite has expanded into a new Liverpool-based studio, which now consists of more than 250 people.
Back in 2021, after adding both Housemarque and Nixxes to its first-party studios, Sony announced that it had purchased the spiritual successor to Wipeout creator Psygnosis - Firesprite. "They already have some strong ties with certain first-party studios, but I want to be clear that we want them to lead the development of several game projects, rather than helping other teams out, even though they have collaborating with us before", PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst said back in 2021. "As Firesprite has grown and evolved, we think that this is a role that it's now ready for, which is developing exclusive games for PlayStation Studios."
Last year, a Firesprite job ad seemingly suggested that the studio is working on an “AAA narrative-driven horror-adventure game in Unreal 5". In addition, the studio is said to working on the rumored new Twister Metal game.
Since being founded in 2012, the Liverpool-based studio has grown considerably, and Firesprite has now announced that the team has moved into a brand-new studio space in the city centre of Liverpool. The new studio is located in a building that, since the 1800s, has served as a library, maritime business, museum as well as a newsroom.
