2024 is not going to see any major PlayStation release from big first-party studios, but the situation will be much different next year, according to rumors circulating online.
Speaking on the ResetERA forums, well-known insider shinobi602 commented on the games launching next year, saying that they are not games like Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade but major titles developed by first-party teams. Unfortunately, the insider did not say how many of these major games will be released next year alongside Death Stranding 2, but this is still good news, considering how dry this year will end up being for major first-party releases.
While 2024 will indeed be a dry year, it's not like no exclusive game is coming out for PlayStation 5 in the next few months. During the latest State of Play presentation aired late last month, the next entry in the Astro Bot series, simply named Astro Bot, has been announced for a September 6th release date. The upcoming game will expand on concept and mechanics introduced in the underappreciated Astro's Playroom, featuring plenty of PlayStation cameos to boot, including a reference to PaRappa the Rapper.
At this time, no one can say for certain when we will see more of what will be coming to PlayStation 5 next year and beyond. A full-blown Showcase is rumored to be scheduled for September, so it may take a few more months to see what will be next for Sony's console and possibly its mid-generation Pro hardware refresh.
