During a group interview with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas and Lead Quest Designer Josh Augustine, it was confirmed that players will earn a Spark of Shadowflame every two weeks for the entirety of Season 2, without random drops. The first full spark can be obtained on May 9th, with the release of Aberrus and the official start of Season 2.
Ion's Explanation Ion Hazzikostas Season 2 sparks are one every two weeks, starting with the start of this season, and that will continue forever. There isn't the «you hit your cap, and now good luck winning the lottery getting extra ones,» it's just one every two weeks. As far as Season 1 Sparks go, the quest to earn the original five still exists, but no more Bottled Essences will drop past that. Season 1 Sparks can still be used to craft Season 1 gear, which you can then recraft to Season 2, or you can just make Season 2 gear straight up. It's one every two weeks. You get a half every week, so you'll get your first half next week, your second half the first week of Season 2. How Sparks WorkSpark of Shadowflame is the Season 2 successor to Spark of Ingenuity, required for crafting epic pieces of gear in Patch 10.1. While the previous spark was also obtained from a special quest every two weeks, players only got five of them before that routine was replaced by the Bottled Essence — a random drop from rare mobs and group activities in Dragonflight. Sparks of Shadowflame are optional reagents used to create 424 item level gear, with Enchanted Aspect's Shadowflame Crest increase them even further.
