Phase 4 Can Now Explain Endgame's Missing Hulk Mystery
Phase 4 of the MCU sets up the perfect opportunity for Bruce Banner/the Hulk to finally unpack one of the franchise's biggest mysteries through She-Hulk and Secret Invasion. The MCU's Phase 4 has ventured into the world of television along with its movies, bringing iconic characters like Hawkeye, Wanda Maximoff, and Loki to the small screen. As Mark Ruffalo's Hulk makes his first Disney+ appearance in She-Hulk, an unexplained MCU plot point can finally be answered.
During the events ofAvengers: Infinity War, the Hulk personality within Bruce Banner refuses to cooperate after a brutal beating from Thanos. After the Blip, Bruce spends the next five years working with gamma radiation to combine the personalities and bodies of his human form and that of the Hulk. This is also the time period whenSecret Invasion will be set. By the beginning of Avengers: Endgame, Bruce has become «Smart Hulk,» which essentially consists of Bruce's brain in the body of the Hulk. During a post-credits scene in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Bruce is back in his human body, yet in the trailer for She-Hulk, he appears to be back in his Smart Hulk form, helping Jennifer Walters control her She-Hulk transformations.
