Pedro Pascal has revealed why Din Djarin removes his helmet for Grogu in The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Pascal made his debut as Din in 2019, and both the character and the show were met with a warm reception. Alongside him has been Grogu («Baby Yoda»), though the duo was separated at the end of season 2, reunited in The Book of Boba Fett, and will now take over viewers' screens yet again with the upcoming The Mandalorian season 3.
One of Din's most well-known rules as a Mandalorian is that he cannot remove his helmet, as it is "the way" for him and his tribe to adhere to the ancient customs of Mandalorians in keeping it on while in the presence of other "living things." Din has, however, removed it four times since the start of the series. The first time he takes it off to eat when no one else is around. The next two times he is given little choice, as one is in an effort to save his own life in «Chapter 8: Redemption» and the other is to save Grogu from Moff Gideon in «Chapter 15: The Believer.» The fourth time, however, is an act entirely of Din's own free will as he decides to show his foundling his face before Grogu is sent off with Luke Skywalker for Jedi training. The heartfelt moment has easily become one of Star Wars' most emotional scenes yet.
