No other theme park management sim has ever quite managed to reach the highs of the classic Roller Coaster Tycoon games, but the attempts keep on coming as it's announced Parkitect will debut on PS5, PS4 later this week in a Deluxe Edition format.
The release bundles together the original title with two DLC packs (Booms and Blooms and A Taste of Adventure), and features new button mapping options and a redesigned UI to make the experience «comfortable» on consoles. You can see it in action in the trailer above, with the PS5, PS4 launch set for this Wednesday, 3rd July 2024. The Deluxe Edition on PC costs just under £40 / $45, so expect a similar pricepoint on PlayStation consoles.
«Parks need planning… more planning than just deciding where to put that crazy rollercoaster,» the YouTube description says. «Decor using scenery to higher up the immersion, hire staff and handle their jobs, upgrade the park with advanced systems and transit options, manage the prices, assemble the rollercoasters and maximize your client’s fun!» Alongside the base game, the two expansions bring more rides, customisation options, levels, themes, and shops.
It's been almost six years since the original PC release, but at the time, the original experience got a Metacritic rating of 83. Eurogamer recommended the experience and wrote: «Like Theme Park and RollerCoaster Tycoon before it, Parkitect manages to capture the essence, the sense of wonder and exuberance, inherent in the best amusement parks. The sound, the music, the vibrant hues and twinkling lights, the screams and laughter of your appreciative guests, and the delightfully intricate machinations of every ride — all working to create little vignettes of warmth and life that make your toils to please your tiny digital guests so much more rewarding.»
