Video games are meant to be broken — at least, according to a certain subset of gamers believe. And with a game as big as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there’s a lot to break. Typically, players exploit glitches to assist in speed runs or adjust something in game — say, add the ability to duplicate important items. Arguably, Tears of the Kingdom’s most important item is the Master Sword.
You can’t duplicate the Master Sword, but innovative Tears of the Kingdom players have found an elaborate, kind of risky way to get an unbreakable version of the iconic sword. An hour-long video by YouTuber El Duende 05, spotted by ResetEra forum users, shows how to get the Master Sword from the game’s prologue, breaking it down into at least seven parts: loading, saving, dropping and picking up weapons, toying with abilities, and a classic glitch-hunting move called zuggling (to put it simply, stacking or combining weapons).
Timing is really important, too. Players have to be precise with your button inputs, on top of being patient. The moves ultimately lead Link outside the confines of the Hyrule map to land right to Ganondorf beneath Hyrule castle. At this point, there’s a step that could go wrong, forcing you back to step three. Yikes! (A good place to note: Players should do this at their own risk, as they could lose their save file.)
If players correctly execute the sequence of glitches, they’ll end up with a Master Sword labeled “MsgNotFound” — the Master Sword from the prologue, which is unbreakable. Tears of the Kingdom players have previously gotten this same Master Sword in the game using complicated (but not so complicated) glitches, but Nintendo patched the glitch out. There’s always the chance that Nintendo will make this solution untenable, too.
