Blizzard has announced Overwatch 2's newest collaboration, a crossover with the popular animeCowboy Bebop that begins on March 12 and brings skins, emotes, and more inspired by the franchise. One of the new Overwatch 2 skins can be unlocked for free by completing various challenges.
Many fans already suspected a Cowboy Bebop event was in the works after a previous Overwatch 2 trailer heavily hinted at one. The anime, which first debuted back in 1997, has proven to be an enduring classic among fans of the genre. Overwatch 2's last major collaboration with an anime franchise was 2023's One Punch Man crossover, which similarly allowed users to purchase or unlock items inspired by the hit show. This time around, Cowboy Bebop fans have plenty of options to choose from.
On March 12, Overwatch 2's Cowboy Bebop collaboration introduces four Legendary skins that can be bought in the shop and another skin that can be unlocked for free, which is the Ein Wrecking Ball skin. Users need to fork over some cash to unlock Spike Spiegel Cassidy, Faye Valentine Ashe, Jet Black Mauga, and Ed Sombra. As their names suggest, all five skins are based on various characters fromCowboy Bebop. The other cosmetics are still unannounced but include emotes and highlight intros.
TheCowboy Bebop event also adds the show's iconic music to Overwatch 2. Additionally, Blizzard might also add new, tongue-in-cheek lore to Overwatch 2 to explain why various heroes are dressing up as Cowboy Bebop characters, as it did with the One Punch Man event. Overwatch 2's art director explained that the One Punch Man show actually exists in the Overwatch universe, suggesting that the various heroes included in the collaboration were cosplaying as the popular characters.
