Announced back in 2019, Overwatch 2 has been building up a fair amount of excitement among the fanbase, and Blizzard's recent updates on the upcoming title are building up further anticipation. One of the studio's latest announcements is the Overwatch 2 ping system, similar to the one in Apex Legends. But fans are already showing concern over how this will be implemented, specifically with how it will impact Sombra players. The reason is that a ping system combined with Sombra's invisibility ability could potentially offer an unfair advantage to players, making Sombra an oppressive option.

Responding to the issues raised, developers at Blizzard shared in a statement that they agree Sombra is the character that will be most affected by the ping system, and that «she’s the main reason for a lot of the nuance in the Ping System.» It goes on to state that since players are only able to place a single ping at a time, Sombra players can only track one foe accurately. «Sombra can already effectively track one enemy’s position now by informing their team that “the Widowmaker is always directly in front of me”, because of how we show silhouettes through surfaces,» the statement adds.
