With the metaverse becoming a hot topic of discussion even in the mainstream media, Samsung has announced that its upcoming 'Unpacked' event will also be aired in virtual reality. Even though many within the industry have dismissed the metaverse as a gimmick, hype about it has reached a crescendo of late, with just about every other tech company jumping on the bandwagon.
While Facebook's parent Meta is most closely associated with the metaverse, others like Microsoft, NVIDIA, Roblox, Snap and Tencent have also either announced their plans to enter the race or are said to be working on it. While Samsung hasn't publicly declared its metaverse plans yet, the company is also keeping with the times and will stream its next hardware event in VR.

Samsung's next Unpacked event will be streamed live on several platforms, as with every one of the company's recent launch events. However, what makes it different is that it will also be simulcast in VR as part of Samsung's possible push into the metaverse. According to a Tweet from Samsung earlier today, users will be able to watch the VR livestream at 837X, a virtual recreation of Samsung's flagship store in New York City in the virtual reality platform Decentraland. In addition to viewing the live event, users will also be able to participate in a sustainability-themed quest, collect NFT prizes and even unlock a Valentine's Day wearable. However, it's not immediately apparent at this point what that entails.
