Since its acquisition by Microsoft, Obsidian Entertainment has proven itself to be a powerhouse for the company. It has, since then, announced huge and highly anticipated RPGs likeAvowed and The Outer Worlds 2, while also supporting the early access release ofGrounded. The first is a first-person RPG comparable to Skyrim, it seems, while The Outer Worlds 2 is expanding beyond the first title. Yet, while Obsidian is known for RPGs, Grounded was a sandbox survival that took off.
Pentiment is another RPG coming from Obsidian Entertainment, but it's not quite like its others. It is a historical narrative adventure RPG, set in 16th century Bavaria, where players investigate the murder of a prominent figure. Apparently, the game takes place over 25 years where players must deduce who the murderer is/was, while solving other crimes and conspiracies. It seems the game never confirms who the killer is, instead leaving it up to the player.Pentiment has been confirmed as a day one Xbox Game Pass game set for 2022, but now Obsidian has confirmed its release date as November 15.
Pentiment is Another Big Departure for Obsidian Entertainment
Fans will want to keep up with forthcoming information about the game, as more will be revealed as November closes in. It seems to be laying heavily into its RPG elements, with choice and consequence at the forefront, but this isn't really surprising. Not only is this an Obsidian Entertainment title, but it's the project that Josh Sawyer has been working on personally for some time. He oversees a few games at Obsidian, but this was his personal project.
