The first Nintendo Direct of 2022 aired on Wednesday night, and Switch owners appear to be pleased with what they saw for a change. That'll happen when you reveal a Switch revival of Wii Sports, a sequel to Mario Strikers, and long overdue Mario Kart DLC all in the space of 40 minutes. We also got a fresh look at Kirby And The Forgotten Land showing off what might have been the biggest talking point of the entire Direct.
Kirby can eat cars now. And vending machines, traffic cones, or just a whole bunch of water that he can then use to clean up or take down enemies. It's called Mouthful Mode, and it takes Kirby's copy ability to the next, somewhat disturbing level. Rather than inhaling an enemy and absorbing their abilities, Kirby stretches his elasticized pink body over an object that has no right fitting inside him.

As Nintendo attempted, and in all fairness succeeded, to distract us with other big announcements, a lot of people simply couldn't move past the images of Kirby stretched out over massive objects. Social media has been brimming with memes and jokes about Kirby's ability to swallow items much larger than him ever since. From King Dedede trying to sell a Kirby car, to the pink puffball's uncanny resemblance with the VLC Media Player logo.
The trailer shown off during the Direct hints that Kirby can gobble up almost anything using his new skill. Swallow an arch and he'll be able to glide. Swallow a bulb and he'll light up. A pretty cool evolution for Kirby in what appears to be the most ambitious game from the Nintendo mascot so far. You'll even be able to upgrade any copy abilities Kirby picks up as the game progresses.
