2022's first new No Man's Sky content, the Sentinel update, will overhaul the galaxy exploration game's combat system. First released back in 2016, the ambitious project is well-known for a rocky launch and a successful revival thanks to post-launch support from developer Hello Games. No Man's Sky's Frontiers update, which launched in September 2021, served as the title's most recent expansion until the brand-new Sentinel update.
Upon release No Man's Sky failed to deliver the space exploration experience that gamers were promised, but over time Hello Games has made those promises a reality. The title has received new multiplayer components, space fleet management, cross-platform play, an extended story mode and improvements to the title's procedural generation of planets. These updates have allowed No Man's Sky to actually surpass Hello Games' original vision in terms of scale and depth. The game's most recent Frontiers update improved planetary settlements, with October 2021's new story-driven Emergence Expedition pitting players against massive Titan Worms on the planet Wasan.
