Android 12 is reaching out to more and more devices as we go ahead in 2022. Realme itself has bene busy updating some of its high-end phones to the newest version of Android. Hence, it is obvious to expect Realme updating its first tablet device launched only four months ago to get the Android 12 update, right? Sadly, that’s not the case. If you got the Realme Pad tablet recently in the hope of seeing Android 12 soon, you are in for some disappointment.
A Realme Community Administrator has clarified in a recent blog post that there is no Android 12 update coming to the Realme Tab. There’s no accompanying reason behind this decision. However, it is said that the company will provide security patches and performance updates throughout its software lifecycle.
Considering that this is Realme’s first tablet device, the decision could affect rest of Realme’s tablet launches in the future. Unlike the Realme phones that run on Realme UI skin based on Android, the tablet runs a different version of Android resembling close to the stock Android. There could be a possibility that Realme has no resources to work on this specific software version, given that the majority of its devices run on Realme UI.
There’s also a possibility of the MediaTek Helio G80 chip not being able to offer strong compatibility with Android 12. The Helio G80 is an old chipset meant to be used in entry-level Android smartphones from a few years ago. Performance on the Realme Pad isn’t exactly sprightly and the development team could have figured out further drops with the newer version of Android.
