Mean Girls Star Recalls Moment Her Daughter Learned She's Gretchen Wieners
Lacey Chabert has recalled the moment her daughter, Julia, learned she played Gretchen Wieners in the 2004 film Mean Girls. Chabert's character, who is an insecure rich girl, serves as the right-hand friend of Regina George (Rachel McAdams), the ruthless leader of the so-called Plastics group. Gretchen is perhaps best known for her attempts to make the word fetch «happen,» which she uses as a synonym for the word cool.
Tina Fey wrote the screenplay for Mean Girls, which would go on to gross over $130 million worldwide at the box office and receive generally positive praise from critics and fans alike. Due to the film's success, Fey would later turn the story into a Broadway play that premiered in Washington, D.C. back in October of 2017 and opened in New York City six months later. Fey's Mean Girls movie has since achieved cult status and is remembered for its widely quotable lines. Many fans celebrate the movie every October 3, owing to a scene where Lindsay Lohan's character blurts out the phrase, "It's October 3rd," when her crush, Aaron Samuels (Jonathan Bennett), asks her what day it is. Though fans quickly recognize characters from the movie, it seems one young viewer just learned the identity of one of the stars.

Speaking with Us Magazine, Chabert recalls the moment when her daughter, Julia, learned she played Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls. Chabert explains that after her husband, David Nehdar, and daughter watched a few scenes from the movie, Julia told her mother, "I didn't know you were Gretchen Wieners." Julia then asked Chabert, "Did you know that was your name?" Chabert goes on to say that she thinks it is "so funny" to hear "that name" come out of her
