The live-action version of Bubbles gives some hope about the status of the Powerpuff series. The CW announced the development of the series early last year, intended to portray the iconic superheroines as older, disillusioned young women. The original series, The Powerpuff Girls, created by animator Craig McCracken, followed three children with superpowers who frequently saved the city of Townsville from monsters and other disasters.
Since its announcement, the series has hit numerous roadblocks. The first was that the network rejected the pilot episode, though it never revealed the full scope of that reasoning. Next, the show had initially cast Chloe Bennet (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Blossom, Dove Cameron (Descendants) as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup, but later lost Bennet due to scheduling conflicts after the rejection delayed production. Additionally, Donald Faison played Professor Drake Utonium in the pilot, but his role in the ongoing production is unknown. Despite everything, filming has supposedly been going along steadily, but there haven't been many tangible updates for some time.
