A recent interview with one of the developers for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time revealed that even those involved with creating the game did not like Link's fairy companion, Navi. The 1998 N64 title has seen a few iterations over the years with the most recent official version showing up on the Nintendo Switch as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack's launch. There is also a fan-made PC port of Ocarina of Time in progress that could be available by April of 2022.
Throughout the course of the franchise, Link has been paired with a variety of companions during his journeys across Hyrule and beyond. There are some reoccurring characters appearing in multiple installments such as the trusted steed Epona or even the titular Zelda herself as well as one-off fan-favorites like Midna from Twilight Princess or the King of Red Lions from Wind Waker. Then there are the partners that many Zelda fans, and as it turns out even some series developers, would prefer to never hear from again.

Navi was the first character hero Link was ever paired with throughout the franchise, however, this little ball of light was not particularly loved by those who created her. Kotaku reported on a recently translated interview with the prolific Zelda developer Shigeru Miyamoto that revealed the Ocarina of Time designer found the fairy companion annoying. In the translation, Miyamoto calls Navi's help-giving mechanic "the biggest weak point of Ocarina of Time." The developer went on to say that he wanted to completely remove the system from the game, but that would have made Link's partner too unfriendly.
