According to a recent construction notice, Nintendo's official museum opening will be missing its targeted March 2024 and will be ready for next month. Nintendo had first announced its plans to open a museum back in 2021, with the intent of sharing its «product development history and philosophy» among all gamers. This museum was going to put a wide variety of Nintendo products on display. The museum style facility was first announced as «Nintendo Gallery,» and it was going to be built on the site of its old Uji Ogura Plant in Kyoto.
Two years later, Nintendo revealed the opening date of this museum during the September 2023 Nintendo Direct, announcing that it would be completed by the end of March 2024, along with revealing its new name of Nintendo Museum. The announcement also revealed a rough architectural rendering of the building, along with an aerial shot that showed the roof being emblazoned with the classic «Question Block» from the Super Mario Bros. games on top. While construction seemed to have been going well according to Nintendo, it appears the building won't be open just yet.
A photo was posted by Japanese Twitter user @hanayohaneNEKO, which displayed a construction notice taken at the site of Nintendo's upcoming museum. According to this notice, the listed completion date is April 30, and it will be open during Golden Week 2024. This delay puts it a month past its original projected opening date. It's a little unclear how long this notice has been put up, but it's very unlikely the museum will be open by the end of March.
When the company first announced its plans to open a museum, it was expected to be completed within Nintendo's 2023 fiscal year, which ends in March 2024. While a month delay isn't too bad, Nintendo has yet to provide a statement regarding a revised opening date.
Nintendo has provided very few details about what will be on display at the museum itself, other than stating that a number of historical Nintendo products will be on display.
