The new Jurassic World movie coming in 2025 has finally found its director after David Leitch exited the movie.
According to Deadline, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards will direct the upcoming blockbuster. It is said that Edwards, who most recently directed The Creator, impressed producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall and spent last week meeting with executives. Preproduction will now ramp up with a director “in final negotiations” with Universal.
The new Jurassic World movie is written by David Koepp, who wrote Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It will launch a “new Jurassic era” featuring a story that will likely not include returning characters from previous Jurassic World or Jurassic Park movies. It will be released in theaters on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
The most recent Jurassic World movie was Jurassic World Dominion, which debuted in theaters in 2022. It was directed by Colin Trevorrow from a screenplay he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, based on a story by the first two Jurassic World films’ scribes Derek Conolly and Trevorrow. Executive producers were Trevorrow, Steven Spielberg, and Alexandra Derbyshire.
The film featured the return of Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, and BD Wong. The were joined by original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Campbell Scott.
