The next film in the franchise will begin filming this year.
In December 2023, Kevin Smith confirmed that he was working on another Jay and Silent Bob movie for him and Jason Mewes to star in.
“Right now, as we speak, I’m writing another Jay and Silent Bob movie,” Smith said at the time, via PopCulture.com. “For me and Jay, we always kind of have fun doing those and stuff, so I lost a bet with him. And so I’m writing another Jay and Bob movie.”
Smith has now given an update on the film on Instagram. In addition to mentioning that the film will start production later this year, he showed off an Evil Dead-inspired prop called “The NecroBobicon.”
“Behold the NecronomiKev – The Book of the Dead Film Careers! Kidding (kinda),” Smith’s caption reads. “It’s actually called The NecroBobicon! I commissioned @nightofthelivingnick (graduate of the @thetomsavini School) to unearth this ancient, evil tome that features in the new @jayandsilentbob flick @jaymewes and I start shooting later this year. The NecroBobicon doesn’t swallow your soul – but legend has it that misuse of the book will leave the reader forever silent…”

Jay and Silent Bob, played respectively by Mewes and Smith, made their first official appearance in 1994’s Clerks. They went on to appear in a number of other movies directed by Smith, including 1995’s Mallrats, 1997’s Chasing Amy, and 1999’s Dogma.
The two characters were given their own feature film in 2001 titled Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. They further had roles in 2006’s Clerks II and 2013’s Jay & Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! before they then got another live-action feature film in 2019 titled Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. They were also featured in 2022’s Clerks III.
Plot details for Smith’s new movie remain under wraps at this time. The film does not yet have a release date.
