Starry Studio and NetEase Games’ Once Human has reached a major player milestone and is celebrating by teasing its first big update.
The free-to-play open-world survival shooter managed to peak at more than 230,000 players on Steam since its launch earlier this month. It also appeared among the top five of the storefront’s Most Played list of games and is one of its Top Sellers. As the team at Starry enjoys its newfound successes, it’s looking to the horizon with an update that’s due out in September.
Once Human players can look forward to a new PvP gameplay scenario that the team says features confrontations between the Mayflies and Rosetta. A PvE scenario is on the way as well, promising a new northern mountain region, monsters, and challenges. No specific release date has been revealed yet.
Once Human released July 9 for PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and its official website, and has quickly gained interest from players thanks to its strange art style and bleak survival gameplay. When the September update arrives, it’ll add to its existing map, giving players even more post-apocalyptic landscapes to explore. Starry released its open-world nightmare only weeks ago but has already faced a few bumps in the road, including cheaters who were swiftly banned, named, and shamed. The studio also had to overcome server issues that cropped up due to its successful launch, which exceeded expectations.
A few small hiccups haven't stopped Once Human from impressing PC gamers – and us. We called it “great” in our 8/10 review, where we said, “Once Human combines simple but solid building and upgrading with some of the best, and weirdest, creature designs of the year to create a very enjoyable survival-crafting experience.”
