Never Alone 2 has been announced my E-Line Media, Humble Games, and Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Inc. The sequel sees the return of Nuna and Fox as they deal with a new threat to their community in the Alaska wilderness. The story has been written by Iñupiat writer Nasugraq Rainey Hopson. Never Alone 2 will have co-op play with both local and online available.
“For CITC, Never Alone has always been so much more than a video game,” said Gloria O’Neill, President and CEO of Cook Inlet Tribal Council. “It’s about sharing Alaska Native culture with the world through our traditions and stories. It’s about meeting Indigenous youth where they are and ensuring that they see their endless potential reflected in positive, strengths-based ways across modern media. It’s about coming together as an Alaska Native community to build an innovative model of inclusive development. Never Alone’s extraordinary success showed us the true potential of combining modern tools like video gaming with authentic Alaska Native stories and values. With the launch of Never Alone 2, CITC is immensely proud to work alongside such a talented team of partners to write a new chapter in this growing franchise.”
In our review for the original Never Alone, which released in 2014, I wrote, “Overall Never Alone is a really good mix of ideas, and could be the start of a kind of docu-game trend, with the inclusion of the Cultural Insights. While there are a few tweaks to the gameplay that should be made, Never Alone is certainly worth your time, and manages to tell so much within the four or so hours it takes to complete. Nuna & Fox’s story is wonderfully told through the native tongue of the Iñupiat, accompanied by artwork inspired by the tribe’s drawings and etchings, and brought to life by the beautiful designed of the environments and characters.”
