Netflix has released the first teaser video and images for its upcoming Sonic Prime TV series, showing the blue blur doing what he does best: running very quickly and collecting coins.
Netflix debuted this footage as part of a sizzle reel of the streaming giant's upcoming animated shows. The video also reveals new footage of the company's new Kung Fu panda and My Little Pony shows, as well as the second season of The Cuphead Show, which is based on the video game.
Sonic Prime Season 1 will span 24 episodes. Netflix says the series will feature Sonic in a «high-octane adventure where the fate of a strange new multiverse rests in his gloved hands.»
The description goes on: «Sonic's adventure is about more than a race to save the universe, it’s a journey of self-discovery and redemption.» Deven Mack voices Sonic in Sonic Prime.
Sonic Prime isn't the only new Sonic project in the works. Paramount is making a third Sonic the Hedgehog film, as well as its own TV series focused on Knuckles. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the US, surpassing the 2020 Sonic movie for the title.
While Netflix is moving ahead with Sonic Prime and other animated series, it was recently reported that the company will scale back some of its animation projects in response to falling subscriber numbers.
As for the Sonic video game series, Sonic Origins launches in June featuring remastered versions of four previous Sonic titles. Ahead of that, Sega is delisting some of the games within the package.
