Netflix has confirmed that the Onimusha anime series will be available to stream from November 2nd. It is one of a few a shows based on Capcom properties, with the likes of Dragon’s Dogma, and Resident Evil also getting show treatment on the streaming service. The teaser trailer shows us a glimpse of what to expect when Onimusha comes to Netflix.
Onimusha has been directed by Takashi Miike, who is best known for directing 13 Assassins, Ichi The Killer, and First Love. He is no stranger to directing shows or films based on video games either. In 2007, he directed Like A Dragon which was based on Yakuza, and he also directed Ace Attorney, based on Capcom’s long running franchise. The description for Onimusha says, “With a demonic, soul-consuming weapon in hand, can a legendary swordsman and a samurai brotherhood defeat a bloodthirsty zombie uprising?”
The last time anything Onimusha related came out was the remaster of Onimusha Warlords in 2019, which originally released on PS2. In our review for Onimusha Warlords, I wrote, “For the relatively low asking price Onimusha Warlords is worth a look if you’ve ever been interested in the series or just want to slay demons in historical Japan. Just beware you’ll have to contend with some game design elements that belong in the early 2000s. It’s not a terribly long game and you can get through it in a few hours, but it’ll keep you entertained throughout.”
The Onimusha franchise began with the released of Onimusha: Warlords in 2001. This was followed a year later by Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny.
