Warning: spoilers for My Hero Academia chapter 353!
The faculty of My Hero Academia's U.A. High have suffered some pretty gruesome casualties over the course of the series, including the death of one teacher during the Paranormal Liberation arc. Now, a villain has come forward to take credit, tempting some of the students towards vengeance over justice.
The professional hero known as Midnight — whose real name was Nemuri Kayama — has the unfortunate distinction of being the first teacher to die in the line of duty. With all hands called to fight against the Paranormal Liberation Front's war on hero society, the experienced hero was on the front lines, working to stop the massive villain Gigantomachia from wreaking kaiju-tier havoc on a nearby city, when she fell hundreds of feet and suffered major injuries. The fall itself didn't kill her, as she had time to contact Momo and provide instructions on taking down Gigantomachia after landing, but she died shortly afterward under unknown circumstances when a group of villains discovered her.

In the scene from 278, a masked villain claims the opportunity to finish her off, but the character isn't one that had been established prior. Now, in chapter 353, they've finally reappeared. Outside the hospital where Gigantomachia is being held, several heroes, including students like Mina Ashido and Eijiro Kirishima, come face-to-face with this very same masked villain. He alludes to a «certain U.A. teacher,» and since Mina and Kirishima were both present with Momo when they learned of Midnight's defeat, the pair are able to connect the dots immediately.
