My favorite headphones are on sale for Black Friday
Sony wireless, noise-canceling headphones are a popular holiday gift for a reason. They’re reliably excellent — and have been for decades. For this Black Friday, Amazon has two of my favorite headsets on sale: the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds and the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones.
It’s easy to be fanatical about your favorite headphones. I wear my Sony earbuds when working, hiking, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and doing practically anything that doesn’t involve engaging with other humans. Other than my smartphone and my laptop, I can’t think of a technology I use more. I have a doting parent-like need to recommend them to anyone and everyone.
How did I become this sort of headphone person? A few years ago, recognizing how much time I spent wearing headphones, I decided to invest in a great pair. I’m so glad I did. These high-end Sony headsets are extremely comfortable, block out noise, and only require a charge every few days despite being in nearly constant use. Plus, the Bluetooth easily connects to all of my devices, from my laptop and iPhone to my Steam Deck and Switch.

Unless you’re a hardcore audiophile, the key differentiator between the WF-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM5 is their shape. Do you prefer earbuds or the classic over-the-ear design? Both headsets are Bluetooth and feature incredible noise-canceling — ideal if you regularly commute or travel for work. Both also feature built-in Alexa voice control.
