LeBron James will be joining the MultiVersus open beta, with Rick and Morty to be the first post-launch addition.
Admittedly, a lot of MultiVersus’ future additions to its roster were leaked long ago, but Warner Bros. and developer Player First Games have now officially revealed three of them.
The first is LeBron James. Not the real-life basketball player but the fictionalised version of him from Space Jam 2. Although he is still a basketball player in that movie.
A brief trailer shows off his gameplay, with him naturally using a basketball as a weapon and projectile. Ever wanted to see him perform a slam dunk on Shaggy from Scooby-Doo? Then MultiVersus is the game for you.
We were going to joke about how, judging by his voice lines, he sounds as unenthused as we are about his inclusion. Except James isn’t even voicing himself.
Instead, it’s anime and video game voice actor John Eric Bentley, perhaps best known for his performance as Barrett in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. We suppose he’s at least providing a faithful impression considering James’ performance in Space Jam 2 won him the Razzie for worst actor earlier this year.
The other two characters – Rick and Morty – don’t have any gameplay footage yet, but the official website confirms that they will be separate characters and not a duo like the Ice Climbers in Super Smash Bros.
LeBron James will arrive tomorrow on July 26, alongside the public beta. Rick and Morty, meanwhile, will be included as part of season one.
That will start when MultiVersus properly launches but there’s currently no date for that yet.
MultiVersus is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
