MSI's X870E motherboards will feature CUDIMM memory support on AMD Ryzen 9000 & 8000 CPUs but will be limited in terms of functionality.
The DDR5 CUDIMM memory standard has seen a rise in adoption by manufacturers, mainly due to its benefits, especially in improving memory transfer capabilities.
CUDIMM, or Clocked Unbuffered Dual In-Line Memory Module standard, utilizes a CKD (Clock Driver) to regenerate the clock signal to enhance stability and help the RAM modules reach higher frequencies. This, in turn, allows a dynamic adjustment of voltages and clock frequencies. Firms like Biwin, V-Color, and Asgard have unveiled their respective CUDIMM solutions, reaching speeds of up to 9,600 MT/s.
Given that the CUDIMM has witnessed increased support recently, enthusiasts were questioning the fact on whether AMD's Ryzen 9000 series CPUs will support CUDIMM modules, and now, MSI's representative & in-house overclocker TOPPC has verified that the X870E platform will indeed debut with CUDIMM compatibility, but it is expected to be exclusive to the Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen 8000 series CPUs, with the Ryzen 7000 not being supported due to compatibility issues.
In an update posted on YouTube, TOPPC claims that MSI will make adjustments to the onboard memory slots to accommodate CUDIMM, along with the newly-emerged CAMM 2 standards, but the expert has noted the fact that motherboards initially won't debut to support "outrageous" speeds such as 10,000 MT/s, and they might boot up with lower frequencies due to naive compatibility, so it won't be wrong to say that consumers won't benefit of fast CUDIMM speeds early-on, but after when the standard becomes common in the industry.
Interestingly, Intel's upcoming Arrow Lake-S processors are also set to feature support for CUDIMM
