AT&T announced that it will start selling the Moto G Stylus 5G for the surprisingly low price of $2 per month for 36 months (or $300 if bought outright) on July 15, 2022.
Motorola's suggested price for the Moto G Stylus 5G is $499, so this is a substantial discount intended to get more people into AT&T's 5G ecosystem without a huge upfront investment. That would also explain the vast difference between the outright purchase and monthly prices.
AT&T is likely subsidizing the phone to get buyers locked into its 5G service for at least three years. Currently, AT&T's 5G network is lacking compared with Verizon and T-Mobile. However, the wireless carrier plans to improve it in 2023, making this a decent long-term investment for anyone who wants a 5G phone on a budget.
The Moto G Stylus 5G features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chip, a large 6.8-inch display with a built-in stylus, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It thoroughly impressed in our battery drain test, lasting over 13 hours.
It's not a phone that'll blow you away with performance, but at the price AT&T is offering, you'll have a hard time finding a more capable device. Just be prepared to be locked into ho-hum 5G performance until AT&T rolls out its network updates that are on the horizon.
