It’s been 19 days since the release of Elden Ring, which is just enough time to share a few interesting statistics courtesy of the game’s Steam Achievements page. For example, over 70% of players have finally defeated Elden Ring’s first boss, Margit, the Fell Omen.
Actually, it’s 70.8% of players who’ve defeated Margit according to Steam’s achievements page. That’s the second highest-achieved item, just after the Roundtable Hold achievement at 78.2%. You get that one just for reaching the Roundtable Hold, which is something that everyone should do eventually.

Shardbearer Godrick, the next boss after Margit, sits at 61.5% achieved. Eurogamer notes that the numbers are similar over on PlayStation, with 68% beating Margit and 57.6% beating Godrick.
Unlike most new FromSoftware releases, where a significant portion of the initial player population will give up in total frustration, Elden Ring’s players seem to be sticking with the game. However, there is a significant contingent on PC (around 30%) that have either given up or have completely ignored the main story. I’d prefer to think of those players as having decided exploration was more fun than sticking to the beaten path, and that 30% will eventually get around to killing Margit once they’ve had their fill exploring the Lands Between.

There's already an "easy mode" mod available on PC that halves the damage you take, increases player damage by 25%, and gives you ten times as many runes. The mod is described as being for "angry gamers," which is likely a good description of the type of person who quits Soulslike games
